Style guide - writing for product
Creating patterns and guidelines to align business and content to create effective consistent content at scale with less resources.
Challenge:
Multiple teams create content and content strategy team, few in number struggle to tackle task vs strategy goals daily. In order to empower business partners and teams within the company to help create better content so that our task driven attitude could be easily set as reviewing and can help us drastically reducing our workload by getting writers on board we came up with clear templates for creating better product content.
Solution:
1. Being the only UX writer for a while in the team, I created a list of type of UX components we generally work on and created anatomy and usage guide along with writing guidelines and clear demarcation of tone of voice used for each of the UX component. Backed with detailed do’s & don’t guidelines and relevant examples of content that currently lives in the product.
2. As a part of the whole style guide update, I also redid the whole UX writing principle in the style guide and create a tone chart for all the UX components.
3. As most of the UX writing was done on sketch first by the designers, we conducted workshops with designers to educate them on how can they mockup thier templates with basics of UX writing principles.
